Laboratory of Chemical Science

Since very long I have been posting about lady teachers of my school, but today after my maths teacher I am sharing my memories of Chemistry Lab Teacher Mr. Debasish Kasta.

He is Chemistry Lab Faculty in D.V. Girls, Chittaranjan. He’s born on 24th Jan 1966. He is basically from Ghatsila. Ghatshila is a town in Purbi Singhbhum district in the state of Jharkhand, India.

Mr. Debasish Kasta

I remember that when we use to visit Chemistry lab for practical, most of the time “Kasta Sir” informed us about the lab’s techniques, instrumentation, protocols and how to properly cite resources. He also used to give us tips about organizing our lab notebooks, how to effectively create graphs and tables for lab reports. In our chemistry lab we were having First Aid box also. He always supervised us about Chemical hygiene and aware about common accidents, which often occur some of them are fire, chemical and thermal burns, cuts from broken glass tubing and chemical splash on face. He used to say “Stay alert and pay constant attention” to your own practical. He informed us about the consequences of every action before we performed it.

Today when I am recalling these memories I can also recall that most of us have always used practical in science to maintain our average score in final terms as well, while the importance was always around how good your practical notebook can look and how many marks you can score through viva, all these small and big tips in chemistry labs have somewhere somehow contributed towards our overall scoring capacity, while as kids we used to ignore these things, now after growing up and working in professional field I can realize how some extra work gets us recognition, just like the practical sessions during our school days.

Sharing Science- Learn,Engage,Be Inspired !!!!!

1  In my previous post I shared the memories of my Hindi teacher, now today I am recalling my memories of Mrs. Pragna Biswas: She is considered as one of the well versed and experienced Science teacher of my school.

Mrs. Pragna Biswas

She basically belongs to Adra, West Bengal. She did her graduation from the University of Burdwan. She is working with D.V. Girls Chittaranjan since 1997, her expertise in science has always helped many student like me in gaining small and big scientific views about our daily life. Even though her mother toung was Bangla she used to take our classes for Science in Hindi as per the CBSE guidelines, through this we always had a idea about her expertise in Hindi as well.

Even though she used to teach us science but whenever she used to draw some kind of diagram on board I always used to find her skills in drawing intriguing as well, her source of inspiration are legends like "Swami Vivekanand" and "Rabindra Nath Tagore".

As they say science changes your way of life, so to the words science actually changes our way of life, but it’s our teachers who provide us with quality education so that not only us but our generations coming have that impact.

Dedicating this to every person who has taught me science in minor or major ways, with their own style.

हिन्दी हमारी पहचान है।

Mrs. Asha Roy taught me Hindi Teacher when I was in 11th standard, she is an expert of Hindi language. She basically is from Bihar (Bhagalpur District) India. She did her High Schooling from - D.V. Girls’ CRJ itself, batch of 1971. She did her college education from- S.M College, Bhagalpur, in 1975.

Mrs.Asha Roy Ma'am

Her own style of teaching different aspects of Hindi as a structured language was unique in itself. I can still recall that I actually was able to understand meaning of Mr. Harivansh Rai Bacchan’s poem “Madhushala” when she explained it in class.

Even though Hindi is one of the language which stands amongst the highest speaking language it’s one of the few language in the world which is most adaptable and contains words from almost every language. It also reflects one of the few excellent qualities of humans, we try to adjust ourselves as per the environment around us, so does Hindi, it accepts everyone, may be that’s one the reasons that now a days we don’t talk in Hindi rather common language of communication is “Hinglish” anyways for some of us it’s impossible to communicate in pure Hindi, may be that’s the beauty about this language.

Hindi is one of the language for most of us where our first teacher is our mother, and so is the case with me as well. But to achieve the professional excellence knowledge of this language, we all need a good teacher, today while recalling the memory of my high school Hindi teacher Mrs. Asha Roy, I would also like to recall memories of my Hindi Teachers who contributed towards enhancing my knowledge and skills in Hindi since my day one in school.

For instance Mrs. Indubala ma’am who taught me Hindi till 10th  standard.

Closing this message with a special thanks to all my Hindi teachers who helped me by teaching such a beautiful language.

Divine Language - Sanskrit

गुरुर्ब्रह्मा ग्रुरुर्विष्णुः गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः । गुरुः साक्षात् परं ब्रह्म तस्मै श्री गुरवे नमः ॥

Simple meaning of this statement in Hindi is:

गुरु ब्रह्मा है, गुरु विष्णु है, गुरु हि शंकर है; गुरु हि साक्षात् परब्रह्म है; उन सद्गुरु को प्रणाम ।

Mrs. Rama Saxena my Sanskrit Teacher(6th to 8th Std.)

Its very much easy to write it down here, but in reality the ancient and one of the oldest structured language in world is being neglected in India itself.

Today allow me to share the memories of my Sanskrit Teacher - Mrs. Rama Saxena

Ma'am with her husband Mr. Ashok Saxena

As per my syllabus I had to study it only for 2 years in my High School. Yet I feel the importance of knowing a little bit about this language, even I shouldn't hesitate in saying that our current educational system ignores the importance of such crucial language, now after growing up I am realizing that how Mathematics and Sanskrit share a similar pattern in terms of their structured approach.

This language has already done its bit towards adding a lot of words in different language, be it English, Hindi or any other language in the world, they all are somewhere somehow influenced by Sanskrit.

Ma'am with her Family

I can't take off memories of my Sanskrit teacher who introduced me to this subject, her way of talking and interacting with us always had a touch of the divine language itself. Using all possible examples to make us remember and understand the concept and finally score required marks 😃

Her role during annual functions along with other staff members has always been remarkable in teaching some of the difficult Sanskrit contents to students who used to perform on such events.
Some of the amazingly catchy "Shloks" she used to teach us always used to find their way to our heart and tongue.

Even after so many years I am grateful towards her for teaching me this language.

Thank you Ma'am..
For guiding us, inspiring us....

धन्यवादः

Art of Life- Craft of Life

Today I am going to write about one of my Crafts teacher – "Mrs. Chandana Mitra"
She did her schooling from D.V. Girls’ High School CRJ and is now working in the same school as craft teacher, she is one of the few students of the school who continued their professional endeavor with the same school.

Mrs.Chandana Mitra

Art and craft as content or subject during our school days is always taken for granted for children in formal education, our education system emphasizes only towards including it in subject list to increase your average percentage by scoring some good marks.

Chandana Ma'am with her Family members
Ma'am with her better half Mr. Shishir Mitra

But while doing this we forget about one basic thing, if this subject can improve our total score and increase our percentage why it can’t increase your income? Or why it can’t help you have an alternative source of income. Our mere ignorance for these subjects or let me say field of excellence has thrown it in dark, our generation has missed on exploring this deep sea of opportunity.

One of my Creation from my school time, which I learned in my Craft Class

Saraswati Puja Alpana decoration at D.V.Girls' CRJ

One of the best qualities I remembered of her was her nature and way of handling kids who were not interested in doing their home-work or class work related to her subject, I don’t remember if she ever scolded anyone for not submitting the assignments.

Ma'am with her Family
Somewhere somehow she knew the perfect way of keeping herself motivated, never allowing other subject teachers to take over her sessions and enjoying every possible moment with her students.

Now we are grown up and we are busy with our professional responsibilities, we go shopping in malls or decorated markets we see so many different items costing from dust to fortunes, I kind of connect it with the classes I ignored during my school days some time I think that how and why these subjects are very much vital for our educational system, and how much money people are making by using these skills which our society considers as useless???
It’s a question worth giving a thought!!!

Dedicated this post to you ma’am… and every other arts and crafts teacher in our country where the least importance is given to such important subjects and skills.
